Planning and Organizing Time

  • I have multiple journals:
    • My brain dump journal is a mini-Mead notebook that I use to write thoughts and feelings with no enforced structure.
    • My planner has prompts and lots of areas to brainstorm in a somewhat more structured way.
  • I highlight my journals:
    • Yellow highlighter is typically for To-Do’s that need to either be transferred between journals or from a journal to my digital task/calendar system.
    • Blue and orange highlighter are for events in my planner.
    • Pink highlighter is for holidays in my planner.
    • I allow myself to cross out items in my journals in black pen when either (a) they have been completed or (b) I have delegated them to either my planner or to a digital platform.
    • I try to schedule recreational goals in my hard-copy planner so that my brain doesn’t associated them as chores or tasks.
  • Finally, I have a digital calendar and task list:
    • These are for formalizing to-dos and events in a sharable format
    • I have a few recurring tasks that are simply for scheduling out the next 3 days, the next fortnight, and the next month.
    • If I need recurring reminders that I don’t want as official tasks that have to be managed (or that will “roll over” into the next day), I simply add them to a digital “reminders” calendar.
    • I keep a separate spreadsheet for recurring tasks and chores that are unimportant so that they don’t show up in the foreground of my day-to-day activities
